Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education
Jordan Schilperoot is an example of the tremendous success students are experiencing through YVC’s Early Achievers Grant. Provided by the Washington Department of Early Learning this scholarship opportunity is available to students employed at an Early Achievers facility.
Following graduation from Zillah High School, Jordan attended YVC. She struggled to find her degree path and maintain her grades so she opted to enter the workforce. She is currently working at Montessori of Yakima. Through her experiences there, she has discovered her passion for teaching and wanted to pursue a degree in early childhood education.
“The EAG has been a tremendous help! With the help of this grant, I am finally going to graduate from YVC,” stated Schilperoort. “The EAG has been the only financial support I have ever received for college. This grant makes it possible for me to keep both of my jobs and still achieve my goal of finally graduating. Without this grant, I would not have returned to college. This grant has also introduced me to classes that genuinely interest me and apply to my current career,” she continued. “I am so thankful for this grant! It really has been crucial to my success,” she concluded.
In addition to attending school and working full-time, she also works part-time at Outlook Elementary School in the 21st Century after school program.
This June she will graduate with an associate of applied science degree in early childhood education. Someday she hopes to return to school and earn a bachelor’s degree.
Early Achiever is Washington State’s child care quality rating and improvement system. Early Achiever facilities receive support and incentives to improve the quality of care they offer children and families. This grant makes it possible for employees to attend school to earn credentials to improve their career.
