Isaiah Lopez

Associate in Science

Isaiah Lopez grew up in the Yakima Valley and was homeschooled through Yakima’s Homelink. As a high school senior, he decided to enroll in YVC’s Running Start Program. “I chose YVC’s Running Start Program because it provided me the opportunity to attend college for free. I also didn’t feel like I was being challenged enough and the thought of changing subjects every three months was very appealing,” stated Lopez. “I love the broad range of classes offered,” he continued.

With the goal of becoming a paramedic and working in the Yakima Valley, Lopez began pursuing his prerequisite courses at YVC. “I’ve really enjoyed the biology courses I’ve taken. The instructors have all been great and I’ve been very impressed with the equipment that is available for our use,” he continued.

Lopez has also become involved in campus life by serving as the Associated Students of Yakima Valley College (ASYVC) vice president. “Being able to serve as ASYVC vice president has been a really good experience. I’ve always been interested in local politics and ASYVC has helped me learn a lot,” he continued.

Lopez graduates in June with an Associate in Sciences degree. He then plans to transfer to Central Washington University, and finish a bachelor’s degree in paramedicine. He one-day hopes to work in local politics.
