Yakima Valley College sees higher enrollment in spring quarter

Yakima Valley College’s enrollment gains this academic year have continued into Spring Quarter 2024 with an enrollment increase of 11% compared to Spring 2023.

The college’s total enrollment for the quarter stands at 4,104 students (with a full-time equivalent enrollment of 3,180), including its Yakima and Grandview campuses, Ellensburg and Toppenish learning centers and online students. Enrollment in YVC’s degree- and certificate-granting programs increased by 10.5% in Spring 2024 from the previous year. Enrollment numbers are as of the 10th day of classes and may change until the end of the term.

“YVC is committed to helping our students become lifelong learners with the skills and knowledge that will allow them to be successful,” said YVC President Linda Kaminski. “Our students recognize the significant value that a YVC education offers, and employers in our region also know our graduates are well-prepared to thrive in the workplace.”

Recently added academic programs that prepare students for jobs in high demand in central Washington and beyond include a Bachelor of Applied Science in Agricultural Sciences, a Practical Nursing certificate and a Sterile Processing Technician certificate.

Enrollment in College and Career Readiness programs (which includes adult basic education, high school completion and English Language Acquisition classes) for spring quarter continues to be open and is up 14% in Spring 2024 from the previous year.

YVC’s Running Start program, which allows high school juniors and seniors earn college credits tuition-free, also saw growth of 21% for Spring 2024 to 811 students — an additional 142 students over Spring 2023 enrollment in the program.

“Running Start offers students and families in the Yakima Valley an opportunity to save time and money earning their college degree, while also having access to a diverse range of courses taught by our excellent faculty,” Kaminski said.

Students wanting to start their education journey during Summer Quarter 2024 can get started now. The deadline for degree/certificate-seeking students to apply and pay the admission fee for Summer Quarter is May 24. Registration for summer classes is open May 7 – June 24, with classes starting on June 24.

YVC also will offer hands-on assistance to anyone interested in continuing their education during Express Admit Days taking place May 30 and August 1 on the Yakima Campus and June 26 and July 31 on the Grandview Campus. These events provide new students with one-on-one assistance completing the application process, starting an application for financial aid and placement testing information. Those attending the May 30 and June 26 Express Admit Days will have their application fee ($30) waived by the college.
