Yakima Valley College enrollment continues to grow in winter quarter

Enrollment at Yakima Valley College has increased by 15.4% in Winter 2023 compared to Winter 2022 as the institution continued returning more in-person classes and student services to its campuses and learning centers.

The college’s total full-time equivalent student enrollment stands at 2,900 in Winter 2023 and continues the upward trend in enrollment experienced in the Fall 2022 quarter. Enrollment in its degree- and certificate-granting programs increased by 13.2% in Winter 2023 from the previous year, while enrollment in College and Career Readiness programs (which includes adult basic education, high school completion and English Language Acquisition classes) increased by 34.5%.

“Students understand that education is essential to achieving their future goals and, while some have needed to take a pause these last couple years, it’s time to complete their degree or certificate,” said YVC President Linda Kaminski. “There’s a tremendous need for more people who are prepared for well-paying jobs that Yakima Valley employers are looking to fill, so seeing more students pursue higher education is good news for our entire community.”

During winter quarter approximately 65% of YVC courses are either fully in-person or hybrid, with a mix of in-person and online instruction. Online classes and student services continue to be offered for students who need them.

Students wanting to start their education journey this spring can get started now. The application deadline for degree/certificate-seeking students to enroll in Spring Quarter 2023 classes is February 21.

YVC will hold Application Days on February 15 and 16 where new students can get one-on-one assistance completing their application, applying for financial aid, and learning how YVC’s academic pathways can help them reach their career and education goals. No appointment is needed to participate. The Application Days will take place:

  • February 15 – 12:30 to 6 p.m., Yakima Campus, Deccio Higher Education Center (Building #8), South 16th Ave and Nob Hill Blvd.
  • February 16 – 12:30 to 6 p.m. Grandview Campus, Grandview Main (Building #56), 500 W. Main Street

Those participating in an Application Day should arrive by 5 p.m. if they need to complete both their application for admission and an application for financial aid. After participating in one of YVC’s Application Days, new students will be set up for any additional steps they need to complete in order to take part in the college’s New Student Orientation and register for classes in March. Spring Quarter classes begin March 29.

Non-degree/certificate-seeking students can register for spring quarter classes March 21 – 28.
