Yakima Valley College enrollment up nearly 25% in spring quarter

Enrollment gains at Yakima Valley College during the 2022-23 academic year have continued into the spring quarter, with enrollment 24.7% higher in Spring 2023 compared to Spring 2022.

The college’s total full-time equivalent student enrollment stands at 2,891 in Spring 2023 and continues the upward trend in enrollment that started in Fall 2022. Enrollment in YVC degree- and certificate-granting programs increased by 20.9% in Spring 2023 from the previous year, while enrollment in College and Career Readiness programs (which includes adult basic education, high school completion and English Language Acquisition classes) increased by 52%.

“Our students recognize that earning a college degree or certificate is essential to opening pathways to well-paying jobs or advancing in their career,” said President Linda Kaminski. “There is strong demand from employers here in the Yakima Valley looking for people with the knowledge and skills that YVC students develop during their time here.”

Kaminski noted that enrollment also continues to benefit from the return of more in-person classes, student services and campus activities, with online classes and services continuing to be offered for individuals who need that option.

During spring quarter approximately 65% of YVC courses are either fully in-person or hybrid, with a mix of in-person and online instruction.

Students wanting to start their education journey this summer or next fall can get started now. Registration for Summer Quarter 2023 begins May 2 and classes begin June 26.

The application deadline for degree/certificate-seeking students looking to enroll in Fall Quarter 2023 classes is August 7.

YVC will hold several Express Enrollment Days this summer where new students can get one-on-one assistance completing their application, applying for financial aid, registering for fall classes and learning how YVC’s academic pathways can help them reach their career and education goals. No appointment is needed to participate.
