YVC Students Earn Honors at SkillsUSA Washington Winter Competition

Students from YVC’s Automotive Service Technology program recently received honors at the SkillsUSA Washington Winter Competition held at Green River Community College in Auburn, WA.

These winning students can be made available for interviews and demonstrations inside YVC’s impressive Automotive Service Technology space.

In total YVC brought home eight medals. Individual honors include: Michael St. Hilaire (Silver Medal, Category: Job Demo A; and Silver Medal, Category: Prep Speech), Matthew Bailey (Gold Medal, Category: Customer Service), Spencer Ramos (Gold Medal, Category: Job Demo B; and Silver Medal, Category: Extemporaneous Speech), Shane Merrill (Silver Medal, Category: Job Demo A), and Ken Inaba (Gold Medal, Category: Customer Service; and Bronze Medal, Category: Job Interview).

YVC students competed against teams from Spokane Community College, Columbia Basin College, Walla Walla Community College, Renton Technical College, and Green River College. Competition categories included: job demonstration, job interview, extemporaneous speech, prepared speech, customer service, uniform, and resume.

SkillsUSA is an applied method of instruction for preparing America’s high performance workers in public career and technical programs. It provides quality educational experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development. It emphasizes total quality at work: high ethical standards, superior work skills, life-long education and pride in the dignity of work. SkillsUSA programs include local, state and national competitions in which students demonstrate occupational and leadership skills. SkillsUSA is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and is cited as a “successful model of an employer-driven youth development training program” by the U.S. Department of Labor.
