Yakima, WA – YVC’s Automotive Service Technology (AST) program is proud to announce that student Michael St. Hilaire has been selected to receive the 2018 Vintiques of Yakima Car Club Scholarship. The $500 unrestricted scholarship is awarded to a student who has an interest in or who is pursuing a career in the automotive industry. Special consideration was given to YVC students due to their support and volunteer work during the 2017 NW Nationals. The club hopes that by providing this award they will encourage the next generation of “gear heads.” In addition to winning this award, St. Hilaire is also one of three YVC AST students who will compete in the National SkillsUSA competition this June.

St. Hilaire will be presented with his scholarship during the program’s End of the Year BBQ & Car Show. The event will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2018 from 12:00-1:00 pm in YVC’s Automotive Service Technology bullpen. Members of the Vintiques of Yakima Car Club will have their vehicles on display during the event and will be available to network with students. Tours of the facility and information about YVC’s AST program will also be available.

This is just another great example of Vintiques giving back to the community,” stated AST Instructor Murray Ruggles. “They are taking their love for classic automobiles and rallying the efforts of many to benefit others, all while having a great time in doing so. This particular instance is also a way of passing the torch onto the next generation of auto enthusiast. There is talk of doing more next year already, too. We appreciate the support of the Vintiques members and thank them for their generosity,” he continued.

YVC’s AST program prepares students for employment in the dynamic high-tech automotive repair industry. Technological advances in today’s automobiles require a highly skilled automotive repair technician. This training can be earned in YVC’s AST program. The program covers all nine National Automotive Technician’s Education Foundation (NATEF) areas of automotive repair and classes are aligned with the corresponding ASE certifications. YVC’s AST program is NATEF Accredited at the Master Level. Learn more about Automotive Service Technology program.
