Staff celebrated, welcomed back for fall

“The Staff Appreciation BBQ was an awesome opportunity for the YVC community to come together — giving us a chance to rebuild our sense of family and community that was so desperately missed,” said Sybil Miller, secretary senior and WPEA chief shop steward.

Hosted by the Professional Development Team, college administrators and unions that represent faculty and staff the event provided free lunch and networking opportunities.

For Vice President of Instruction and Student Services Jennifer Ernst, the event provided the opportunity to publicly and tangibly show appreciation to colleagues.

“We are so appreciative of how committed our YVC family is to serving our students,” said Ernst. “We are looking forward to more events that further underscore our appreciation by giving our staff an opportunity to share their journey with each other and grow in that mission.”

According to Ernst the effort to engage and show appreciation for staff continues in December with a retreat that will include lunch and conversation.

“[The Professional Development Team] are continuing to meet bi-weekly to bring ideas and energy to enhancing our mission as higher education professionals,” Ernst continued.
