Remembering Faller, Phillips, Van Dyke

In Memory is dedicated to YVC alumni, faculty and staff who have passed away. It offers a place where the YVC community can remember friends and loved ones.

Bill Faller

Bill Faller
Retired Athletic Director, Instructor, Football and Baseball Coach

Bill Faller began his YVC coaching career in 1961 and served as YVC athletic director from 1972 to 1983. He retired from the college in 1987 after 26 years at the college. During his time at YVC he became the NWAC’s winningest coach with 664 wins, 18 league titles and 11 conference championships. Faller also served at YVC as the coach of the school’s only conference champions in football, in 1964, an assistant basketball coach, a physical education instructor, and a two-term faculty union president.

In 1984, Faller was inducted into the YVC Hall of Fame. In March 2015, his name was added to the college’s baseball field at the request of Shirley Daryl Parker in honor of Bill’s 90th birthday. The NWAC named its championship trophy the Bill Faller Trophy and inducted him into the conference’s Hall of Fame in 1991.

Kevin Phillips
Night Security Officer

Kevin Phillips began working at YVC as a full-time security officer in November 2003. Phillips worked his entire career at YVC on the graveyard shift and passionately believed the safety and security of the campus did not end at dusk. Although few employees got to know him personally because of his late night / early morning schedule, his frequent, detailed incident reports assured us that he was vigilant in protecting our campus grounds, buildings and equipment for the last 20 years.

Colleagues noted that Phillips was the officer in the department who kept everything tidy — documents, calendars, equipment and more. He was a huge Notre Dame fan and loved celebrating St. Patrick’s Day each year, even decorating the entire Security Office in green. Phillips had a very strong interest in photography and donated significant time photographing Selah High School football throughout their season.

Peggy Van Dyke

Peggy Van Dyke
Retired Program Assistant – Grandview Campus

Peggy Van Dyke began working at the Grandview Campus in April 2000 as a program assistant in Student Services.  She retired from YVC in November 2019.  She provided caring support for our Grandview students, was well loved by her colleagues, and was a strong supporter of our Grandview Campus.
