Manuel ‘Manny’ Canchola

Associate of Applied Science in Business Management

Manuel ‘Manny’ Canchola was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and graduated from high school in 1978. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California. He served from 1979-1985 as a Logistics/Embarkations Specialist, where he prepared supplies and equipment for embarkation and performed various force deployment planning and execution functions to support the movement of personnel, supplies, and equipment. During his service he did three tours in Okinawa, Japan. Following his service he relocated to the Yakima Valley. In 1987 he opened Manuel Painting, a local painting company that he owned and operated for more than 20 years. After becoming disabled, Manny decided to retrain for a new career. He enrolled at YVC through the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP). Initially thinking he would pursue a certificate program, Manny quickly realized how much he liked YVC and decided to work towards an associate’s degree. “I would recommend YVC to anyone who would like to further their education. Whether you are a veteran, student, homemaker, or whoever,” stated Canchola. “Everyone on campus has been very supportive and helpful,” he concluded. In the fall he will graduate with an associate of applied science in business management. Following fall quarter 2015 Canchola will return to Pittsburg where he will begin work at the Port Authority.
