Abraham Lopez

Associate of Applied Science in Business Administration

Abraham Lopez was born and raised in Prosser, WA. The son of immigrants, Lopez’s family spoke only Spanish and from a young age, he was immersed in the strong Latino culture in the lower Yakima Valley. Recognizing that he would need to learn English, his older sister began teaching him when he was just three-years-old. “For most of my early education, I was unmotivated,” stated Lopez. “I did not have any goal or aspiration in life. That, topped with a depression that started in my freshman year, made my high school career not so good of an experience. I did not do so well academically, only finding small moments of success. However, I was able to meet my wonderful girlfriend who helped me deal with my depression and was able to get me motivated to pursue my educational career further,” he continued.

Following high school, he began attending YVC’s Grandview Campus, initially pursuing a degree in criminal justice, but later switching to business administration. “I chose this program initially to get a good broad degree after I made the decision to no longer pursue a degree in criminal justice, but I grew to like it a lot,” continued Lopez. Finding success, he has continually earned a spot on the President’s List each quarter. Outside the classroom, he has worked as a tutor and is serving as this year’s Grandview Student Council Vice President.

He graduates this spring with an associate of applied science degree in business administration. He hopes to begin YVC’s BAS in Business Management degree in the fall. Ultimately, he would like to start his own limousine business.
