Wendy Baker
Retired Nursing Instructor

Wendy Baker taught in Yakima Valley College’s Nursing department for 16 years, beginning in September 2003, and served as the Interim Director of the Nursing program from 2019-2021. Baker retired from YVC in 2021. In her role as Interim Director she led a very successful program accreditation.

According to one of her colleagues; “She was a great cook, a great mom, a mentor to students and colleagues, and someone you could always rely on.” She also worked closely with faculty in other departments such as psychology; such as, collaborating with Tom Mount on the psychosocial aspects of healthcare.

Recently, Wendy assisted the State Nursing Commission in successfully securing congressional funding for an LPN apprenticeship program for Yakima.

“We are indebted to her for her excellent leadership of our Nursing program and selfless service to our state and local community,” said YVC President Linda Kaminski. “Wendy was well loved by her students and her colleagues. Our prayers go out to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.”
