Grandview, WA– Yakima Valley College’s Teaching Winery, Yakima Valley Vintners, and students in the Wine Marketing class invite the community to an exciting open house at the only teaching winery in the region. The free event is an opportunity to learn about wines produced in the Yakima Valley, tour the winery, and enjoy tastings of student-crafted, award-winning wines. “After attending the 3T event in the past, it sparked my interest in the wine industry and now after eight years I have come back to enroll in the program,” states YVC Wine Marketing Student Ryan Sexton, who is helping to plan the event.

Several interactive educational activities are planned, including a comparison tasting of wine fermenting in a tank versus wine fermenting in what is affectionately called the “Drunk Turtle.” The Drunk Turtle is an amphora (fermentation vessel) produced by a company in Tuscany, Italy, made of fragments or “cocci” of crushed terracotta and stone, sand, and a binding agent. Visitors will be able to taste for themselves the difference this vessel provides in wine set to go into bottles for release this spring.

Yakima Valley Vintners’ wines will be available for purchase by the bottle or the case. Join us to learn how YVC’s Teaching Winery contributes to the growing wine industry in the Yakima Valley and Washington State. “I’m excited to teach the community about our program and showcase the great wines that we’re producing,” remarks YVC Vineyard & Winery Technology Student Fernando Felix.
