Andrea resigns as women’s basketball coach

Yakima Valley College has announced that Head Women’s Basketball Coach Robin Andrea has resigned his position as his family is relocating to Southwestern Washington.

Andrea has served as head women’s basketball coach at YVC since July 2021 and coached the Yaks for a total of three seasons. Taking over a program that was winless in the abbreviated 2020-21 COVID season, the Yaks steadily improved under Andrea’s direction. YVC qualified for the NWAC Championship tournament in 2023-24, the program’s first appearance since the 2019-20 year.

“While we are sad to see Robin leave YVC, we understand that family comes first and this move is in the best interests of the Andrea family,” said Director of Athletics Ray Funk.

Prior to coaching the women’s team at YVC, Andrea was an assistant coach for three years at Linn-Benton Community College after spending six seasons as an assistant for the Western Oregon University women’s and men’s basketball programs.

“Leading the YVC women’s basketball has been a privilege that I hold dear,” said Andrea. “I have cherished my time in Yakima and will always be proud of what we have achieved together.  I want to express my deepest gratitude to Athletic Director Ray Funk for the opportunity and extend heartfelt thanks to Head Men’s Basketball Coach London Wilson for his collaboration and camaraderie.  Outside of athletics, it was an honor to work alongside dedicated professionals such as Director of Library and Media Services Leslie Potter-Henderson and Director of Auxiliary Services Sophia Juarez.”

The search for a replacement for Andrea will begin immediately and YVC athletics staff will run the day-to-day operations for the program until a new head coach is named.
