General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
Yakima Valley College (YVC) offers GED Preparation to students interested in studying for the GED exam through individualized and classroom support. The GED exam is administered on the computer and students need to have strong academic skills and knowledge in the areas of reading, writing, math, computer technology, social studies, and science in order to pass the exam.

Tuition Rates
Students pay a $25 per quarter tuition fee.
HOW TO SIGN UP
Enrollment is ongoing. Classes are open entry/open exit, but usually fill early in the quarter.
FOLLOW THESE STEPS
STEP 1
Contact the location you wish to attend to get the current entrance assessment schedule. You do not need an appointment.
STEP 2
Bring a check or money order in the amount of $25.00 to the entrance assessment appointment to pay your tuition fee.
STEP 3
Meet with an advisor to help select your classes.
Assessment Test & Classes
The dates and times are updated each quarter – dates, times, and locations of the entrance assessment and class offerings are available by contacting the site you plan to attend. Classes are offered in various locations throughout the Yakima Valley. Assistance is available in English and Spanish.
GED Test preparation courses
- Classes help improve reading, writing and math in order to pass the GED test.
- Classes are held at the Learning Center Locations.
- There is a $25 tuition fee for the quarter.
- Students must be 16 years of age or older, not enrolled in high school, have educational needs below the level equivalent of high school completion (ages 16-18 must have a release form from their school districts.)
College Alternative Program
Under 21 years of age – YVC has a special GED preparation program called the College Alternative Program (CAP). This program is offered at the Ellensburg Learning Center only.
Step Up to College
The Step Up to College program allows students ages 16-20 from Grandview, Mabton, and Toppenish school districts to earn a high school diploma or GED. Learn more about SUTC.
