Tasting Room Manager – Ellensburg, Wash.

Fortuity Cellars is a Yakima Valley-based premium winery. We’re seeking a full-time tasting room manager (32+ hours/week) at our newest location in the Downtown Ellensburg Historic District, which will be co-located with Nuwave Gallery by Erin Oostra.

Fortuity started making wine in 2017 out of a small incubator in Grandview, Wash.. We source from nine different family-owned vineyards throughout the Yakima Valley AVA. We are the recipient of the 2019 Rising Startup of the Year and numerous wine awards including Editor’s Choice by Sean Sullivan of Wine Enthusiast, Best in Class from Wine Press Northwest, and Best of the Northwest by Sip Magazine. Fortuity completed its new winery production facility in the heart of Washington Wine Country in March 2020, and after a delay from the pandemic, opened for wine tasting in August 2020.

The Ellensburg tasting room manager position is critical to our team – as you will become the face of Fortuity in the Ellensburg community. You will be responsible for accurately (and enthusiastically) presenting our wines to the customer; running a safe, clean, orderly tasting room; cultivating strong partnerships with the local business community and industry partners; and connecting with our club members and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Be a Fortuity Ambassador and live our company values
  • Lead the daily activities of the Tasting Room to achieve revenue goals, club member growth (attraction & retention) and ensure the highest level of service
  • This sales-and-service-driven position will actively work the sales floor fostering a warm, friendly, and welcoming environment, interfacing with guests, and creating exceptional and memorable guest experiences
  • Pour wine and educate guests on our wines, vineyard sources, family, and brand
  • Hire, train, schedule, motivate and lead the team ensuring all staff upholds a high level of service, perform their jobs accurately, meet sales and wine club goals, and comply with all state and local laws, liquor regulations, and health codes
  • Maintain a professional, calm, cool, and collected composure under stress or high-pressure situations
  • High attention to detail and ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Perform quality work efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Manage Ellensburg social media accounts
  • Open availability (weekends, holidays and evenings). Starting general business hours are: Fridays 12-7p, Saturdays 12-6p, Sundays 12-5p and Mondays 11a-5p. Hours subject to change and optimize for consumer trends.
  • Must be able to work occasional off-site or after-hours events authorized by owners
  • Responsive and flexible to last minute requests
  • Curate small table snacks in a thoughtful and profitable manner
  • Stock and manage an accurate inventory (daily, weekly and monthly)
  • Maintaining a tidy, clean, and organized tasting room and work space
  • Coordinate with Nuwave Gallery on calendar, events and daily operations
  • Coordinate with Ellensburg Downtown Association calendar of events
  • Assist winemaking team with bottling, harvest activities and blending trials, as schedules allow – this is a great way to get to know the Fortuity team and brand even better!

Qualifications

  • Passion for wine and people; good communication and leadership skills
  • Commitment to a strong safety culture and continuous improvement
  • Be scrappy, innovative, adaptable and think outside of the box
  • Desire to be part of something big and fun!
  • College education or equivalent experience like training as a sommelier/WSET, desired but not required
  • Minimum 2 years experience in hospitality
  • Familiarity with the Ellensburg community preferred
  • Experience leading/managing a team, preferred
  • Experience with G-Suite (Google Docs, Drive, etc), preferred
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record and drug screening test may be required
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • MAST Class 12 permit and Food Handlers Card required
  • Able to consistently lift 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques
  • Ability to twist, squat, and reach above your shoulders
  • Able to stand and walk for long periods of time
