Associated Students of Yakima Valley College (ASYVC)

 All registered YVC students are part of the ASYVC. The structure of the ASYVC Student Government consists of two branches: The Executive – Yakima and Grandview Student Councils and the Legislative – voting members of the ASYVC Senate.

The success of the ASYVC depends on the exchange of ideas, a strong commitment to representing the student voice, and ensuring that student issues and concerns are heard.

ASYVC – Student Life Mission Statement

ASYVC – Student Life fosters an equitable and inclusive environment for all Yaks to achieve excellence through Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access. The Diversity of our students, faculty, and staff helps us fulfill our mission to Explore, Discover, Create, and Engage.

ASYVC Executive Board (EB)

The ASYVC Executive Board is the combined student government officers from the YSC and GCS. The EB works under the guidance of the Student Life Coordinator. EB provides opportunities for up to 13 students to serve in leadership positions each academic year. Successful applicants to the EB will have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA, be enrolled in 10 or more credits, and display a commitment to the ASYVC mission statement.

Potential positions are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Public Relations & Marketing, Director of Event Programming, Director of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Access (IDEA) Programming, and Lead Student Ambassador & Outreach.

Yakima Student Council (YSC)

The YSC hires up to eight paid officer positions per academic year. YSC officers represent the student voice on the Yakima campus by participating as voting members of the ASYVC Senate and Executive Board. Officers will serve on a variety of committees as needed with a special commitment to serving on the Diversity Series. YSC officers will attend and participate in ASYVC sponsored events on their campus. Collaboration with the GSC is a key component to these positions.

Grandview Student Council (GSC)

The GSC hires up to five paid officer positions per academic year. GSC officers represent the student voice on the Grandview campus by participating as voting members of the ASYVC Senate and Executive Board. Officers will serve on a variety of committees as needed with a special commitment to serving on the Diversity Series. GSC officers will attend and participate in ASYVC sponsored events on their campus. Collaboration with the YSC is a key component to these positions.

ASYVC Senate

The ASYVC Senate is the governing body for students at YVC as recognized by the District Board of Trustees. The ASYVC Senate is comprised of the ASYVC Executive Board and one representative from each recognized ASYVC club and program.

The ASYVC Senate meets every Monday 12:30 PM – 1:00 PM (except the first week of each quarter, finals week, or on holidays) via Zoom. Request link by emailing lyolo@yvcc.edu.
