Yakima Valley Community College’s Education Department provides men and women an opportunity to pursue careers in Education (EDUC), Early Childhood Education (ECED), Para-Educator and related fields. The program offers a variety of courses, certificates and degrees organized around the Washington State Skill Standards for Paraprofessionals and the Washington State Skill Standards for Lead Teachers in ECE settings. Some courses are open to the general public.
The Education Department also offers Direct Transfer and Articulation Agreements with Central Washington University and Washington State University. |

| Admission to the Program |
|
Program candidates should request an information packet
from the Education Department Office located in Lyon Hall
J190 or call (509) 574-4932. Eligible students may begin the
program in September, January, or March. Admission to
the program is based on Compass Placement Testing eligibility for English 075,
and Reading 081. A criminal history check must be
passed before admission to practicum's.
All students interested in any of the attached programs, degrees, and/or certificates must follow the procedure listed below:
- Take the compass test if you have not already taken it (Cost: $10.00 and must have photo ID).
- Schedule an appointment with an advisor in the Education Department (listed below).
- Complete the enclosed information sheet and turn into the Education Department.

| Program Faculty & Facilities |
| Education Program faculty are educators with
classroom experience, including work with both young
children and adults. The laboratory sites are located
in programs recognized for providing quality education and
care of young children. |

| Graduates of the Programs |
| A variety of careers are available to
Education graduates in school districts, child care centers,
and preschools, depending on the individual's level of
training. Past graduates of Education Programs have
used their education as assistants, para-educators,
teachers, program supervisors, home child care providers,
and parent educators. |

| Scholarships |
| Washington Scholarships for Child Care Professionals (formerly the T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® Washington) is a program that helps early childhood professionals pay for a college education through community and technical colleges in early childhood education. They also help pay for Child Development Associates (C.D.A.) credential application fees. | Other Options |
| The Early Childhood Education Program is a
site of the Teacher Education and Compensation Helps Program
(TEACH), offering scholarship assistance for child care
providers who wish to pursue an Associate of Applied Science
Degree in Early Childhood Education. Courses are also
available for child care providers needing a 10-hour
or 20-hour training for the Washington State Training and Registry
System (STARS) and Child Development Associate (CDA)
training. |
