6. Yakima Valley Community College’s ADN Nursing Awarded Grant Worth $300,000:
Yakima Valley Community College’s Associate Degree Nursing Program (ADN) was recently awarded a High Demand Grant through the State Board of Community and Technical Colleges. This grant will be worth $300,000 over the next two year period and will allow the program to offer a “bridge” course for LPN’s in preparation to complete the final two subsequent programs of the RN Nursing Program.
The bridge course is designed to evaluate each LPN on an individualized basis to develop a specific learning plan in preparation for the final two quarters of the ADN program. It includes independent study and remediation, face to face seminars, and practice laboratory using a human simulator followed by a clinical rotation within the community. The bridge course is designed to allow flexibility for the working LPN. Once this course is completed students are eligible to enroll in the last two subsequent quarters of the Registered Nurse (RN) nursing program which will enable the LPN to sit for the national RN licensing exam.
LPN’s who are interested should contact the YVCC Nursing Program immediately for more information. The first class will begin winter quarter 2008. Interested LPN’s may start the evaluation process in preparation for winter quarter any time during fall quarter 2007.
