The University of Montana Grizzly basketball team has recently signed another outstanding player to a National Lettersof Intent, announced third-year UM head coach Wayne Tinkle.

A 6-3, 195-pound guard who can play the one or two position, Johnson was the East Region MVP of the NWAACC. Johnson averaged a team-high 24.4 points a game for his squad, which was 21-7 this past season. He shot 53.6% from the field and an impressive 89.1 percent (205-of-230) from the line.

Johnson led Yakima Valley CC to the NWAACC Tournament championship, scoring 38, 33, 29, and 25 points en route to earning MVP honors in the tourney. More...

Johnson This Year's NWAACC Gem

Anthony Johnson averaged 25 points per game in the regular season. Many Division I schools are after his services.

Since he graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma in 2005, it's been a relatively long road for Anthony Johnson. But three years later, it appears the quick 6-foot-3, 195-pound guard will be on his way to college basketball's highest level. Johnson just finished up a two-year career at Yakima Valley Community College in grand style and should have some nice four-year options to choose from in the upcoming weeks. more....

Yaks bag bigfoot --YVCC stuns Sasquatch for NWAACC title

In a game strongly reminiscent of YVCC's conquest of heavily-favored Green River in the 2003 title game, the Yaks (25-7) scratched, clawed, defended and made just enough plays offensively to beat a team some had called the NWAACC's best more....

No  Heroics Needed

YAKIMA VALLEY 111, BLUE MOUNTAIN 57: At Pendleton, Ore., this time, Yakima Valley made sure there was no need for a last-second shot.

College roundup — Johnson scores 42, leads Yaks
YAKIMA HERALD-REPUBLIC

Ray Funk wasn't sure if it was a school record, but he was clearly certain of one thing Friday night.

"I'm glad he's wearing cardinal and gold," the Yakima Valley men's coach said of Anthony Johnson after Johnson had scored 42 points in the Yaks' 98-69 rout of Blue Mountain in an Eastern Region game in Sherar Gym. more...

EDMONDS — A night after one of their most impressive wins of the season, Yakima Valley's men found the tables turned. They trailed Edmonds by 10 points at halftime and by 13 early in the second half. But the Yaks recovered, riding the scoring of Anthony Johnson and Spencer Adams and the rebounding of Jody Johnson to an 80-73 victory over Edmonds on Saturday night in the Tritons' gym. more...

YVCC basketball Both teams happy with recruiting classes
By ROGER UNDERWOOD
YAKIMA HERALD-REPUBLIC

Like those of most junior colleges, the basketball rosters at Yakima Valley have undergone substantial change since last season.
But unlike those of many two-year institutions, the Yaks men's and women's coaches aren't expressing hand-wringing angst over the transformation of their teams.
Though both made the NWAACC Tournament last March, with the YVCC women advancing to the semifinals, men's coach Ray Funk and women's coach Cody Butler seem both encouraged and excited about their respective recruiting classes.
