Yakima Herald-Republic

YAKIMA -- Yakima Valley's fastpitch sophomores were sent out in style Saturday, with the Yaks sweeping Columbia Basin 6-3 and 8-0 in an Eastern Region doubleheader at Dunbar Field.

The victories in YVCC's final home games improved the Yaks to 9-13 in region play and 16-22 overall. Their final six regular-season games are on the road.

Brooke Bigby, a sophomore from East Valley, pitched both games, scattering nine hits in the first game and allowing only three in the second.

Kara Woosley drove in two runs in each game while Adriana Mendoza was 3-for-3 to lead YVCC's 14-hit assault in the nightcap.

The Yaks have an outside chance at the NWAACC playoffs, trailing Blue Mountain by four games for the final berth. Yakima Valley plays doubleheaders next weekend at Treasure Valley and Blue Mountain before closing its schedule May 10 at Wenatchee Valley.
