YAKIMA VALLEY 67, WENATCHEE VALLEY 56:
At Wenatchee, Alex Moore-Porter came off the bench for 17 points, six rebounds and five steals as the Yaks won their Eastern Region opener.
Andrea Blodgett was the only other double-digit scorer for YVCC with 10 points and the Yaks shot only 32 percent from the field (2-for-25 from 3-point range), but nonetheless improved their season record to 13-2. Yakima Valley was ranked No. 3 in last week's NWAACC poll.
Moore-Porter had YVCC's hottest hand, hitting 6 of 9 field goal attempts and converting 5 of 7 free throws. Blodgett was 6-for-8 from the line as Yakima Valley hit 19 of 27 collectively.
"Alex came in and scored on a night when the regular scorers weren't scoring," Yakima Valley coach Cody Butler said. "In the second half we went to a little half-court press and Katie Harris really got into it. Of anyone on our team, she played the best at both ends of the floor."
YVCC led only 28-26 at halftime, but built a 56-37 advantage before the Knights rallied.
Amanda King led WVC (8-7) with 16 points, but Yakima Valley forced 35 turnovers, collected
18 steals and held the Knights to 33 percent field goal shooting.
YVCC hosts seventh-ranked Big Bend for its regional home opener at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
