Blodgett, Woodke lead YVCC women
YAKIMA HERALD-REPUBLIC

TWIN FALLS, Idaho -- Andrea Blodgett took care of the ball and Gena Woodke took care of the boards.

That formula, according to Yakima Valley women's coach Cody Butler, was the defining factor in the Yaks' 63-57 victory over College of Eastern Utah in the College of Southern Idaho Tournament on Saturday.

"They pressed the entire game and they had 14 kids and played them all," Butler said. "Andrea did a great job of taking care of the ball against their press, and if you look at the stats, they're pretty much even except for offensive rebounds. We had 22 and they had 11, and that was probably the difference in the game."

Point guard Blodgett had a team-high 15 points and also grabbed four rebounds. Woodke got six of her nine boards off the offensive glass. Donjanique Baker got three of her nine boards at the offensive end and Brittany Weaver, who also scored 13 points, totaled three offensive rebounds among her total of eight.

YVCC had built a 36-19 halftime lead only to have the Golden Eagles from Price, Utah start the second 20 minutes with a 5-0 run. A
17-9 surge brought CEU to within 42-41 before Blodgett scored while being fouled.

She missed the free throw, but Woodke rebounded and missed after which Taitum Dixey did likewise. Finally, Kylie Shaw got yet another offensive board and scored, prompting a timeout by the Golden Eagles' coach.

"He was really chewing them out and that got our girls revved up," Butler said.

From there the Yaks maintained their advantage at the foul line, with Emily Hernandez going 4 for 4 and Woodke 2 for 2.

"It was a good win for us," said Butler, whose team improved to 7-1 and was ranked No. 3 in the season's first NWAACC poll. "The game had a chance to go the other way, but we came together at a crucial time."
