College roundup — Johnson scores 42, leads Yaks
YAKIMA HERALD-REPUBLIC

Ray Funk wasn't sure if it was a school record, but he was clearly certain of one thing Friday night.

"I'm glad he's wearing cardinal and gold," the Yakima Valley men's coach said of Anthony Johnson after Johnson had scored 42 points in the Yaks' 98-69 rout of Blue Mountain in an Eastern Region game in Sherar Gym.

Johnson, a 6-foot-3 sophomore from Tacoma, was 12 for 17 from the field and 18-for-19 from the foul line for YVCC, which won its third straight to improve to 3-3 in region play and 15-5. He also added five rebounds and five steals.

"Anthony is a real complete player," Funk said. "There are a bunch of four-year schools recruiting him. He has a knack for keeping his balance when he's in the air and drawing the foul. He can drive to the basket, obviously, and his pull-up (jumper) is strong enough that other teams have to respect that."

Spencer Adams finished with 15 points and LeMar Anglin added 10 for Yakima, which hosts Treasure Valley at 4 p.m. today.

"Anthony had a great game and all," Funk said, "but the other guys played well, too, and there's no jealousy or anything like that."
