YAKIMA HERALD-REPUBLIC

Yakima Valley Community College's baseball team brought some thunder to the opening day of the NWAACC East Region season on Wednesday.

With Devon Bouvier and Brent Rushin providing the biggest hits, the Yaks piled up 31 hits for the afternoon and swept Spokane, 10-5 and 10-8, at Parker Field.

"I wish we could bottle that and use a little every day," said YVCC coach Ken Mortensen, whose team improved to 11-10 for the season.

Bouvier was 4-for-4 in the opener and clubbed a pair of two-run homers. Teammate Ryan Lewis also had four hits in the first game, and Tyler Conrad pitched a complete game.

Rushin hit a grand slam in the second game and finished 3-for-5 with five RBI, and Justin Marlow and Bouvier scored three runs apiece.
