Local Report — Yakima Valley overcomes bigger Treasure Valley

Overcoming a height disadvantage with strong defense, Yakima Valley Community College's volleyball squad defeated Treasure Valley in NWAACC play Wednesday at Sherar Gym.

The Yaks lifted their East Region record to 2-1 and will travel to Walla Walla on Friday.

Mari Cornejo, a sophomore from Grandview, collected nine kills to help YVCC prevail
30-28, 30-19, 18-30, 30-16.

"They went 6-0, 6-1, 6-3 across the front but we played some pretty good defense," said coach Al Rogers. "We lost some momentum in the third game but took control again in the fourth."
