Local Report —
Yaks battle to 2-2 tie with Olympic
YAKIMA HERALD REPUBLIC

Leticia Reiber scored two goals — the second with four minutes left — to lead Yakima Valley to a 2-2 tie with Olympic in an NWAACC West Region women's soccer match Wednesday at Chesterley Park.

The stalemate left the second-place Yaks 3-3-2 going into a home match at noon Saturday against Tacoma.

Yakima Valley trailed 1-0 at halftime, but Reiber's first goal, off an assist from Marci Ford, tied the score two minutes into the second half. The Rangers' Jessica White, who had scored the match's first goal, put her team back ahead in the 60th minute before Reiber tallied the equalizer with an assist from Erika Eichler.

"We actually had a lot of opportunities," YVCC coach Luiz Machado said, "but their keeper (Katie Shoemaker) played really well. We were very aggressive. And we're on the right track.

"We're getting the chemistry that we're looking for, and the effort has always been there."

NWAACC soccer has no overtime provisions, so each team gets a point in the standings totals.
