Admissions Office
Yakima Valley Community College has an open-door admissions policy for any adult eighteen or over or whose high school class has graduated. Students under the age of eighteen are considered for admissions on a case by case basis with written approval from their high school. YVCC welcomes the application of anyone who feels they can benefit from the educational programs we offer. If you intend to enroll for 10 or more credits or if you are planning to complete a degree or certificate program, you need to complete an application for admissions. Admissions is located in Deccio Higher Education Center Room C-139.
 

Steps to Apply
  1. Complete a YVCC application for admission or a uniform two-year college application available at the admissions office or at a high school counseling office or you may apply online.
  2. Submit the $20 application fee.
  3. Take the placement test. The Compass is required for all students unless you have a transcript from a previous college with math or English credits.
  4. If you have attended a college or university previously, submit an official copy of your transcript to:

  5. YVCC grants college credit for the following programs: Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), International Baccalaureate (IP) and college in the high school. If you have participated in any of these programs please submit a official transcript or test results to the address above.
  6. Once you have applied and completed Asset, we will send you an appointment for orientation, advising and registration.

Residency

The residency requirements are governed by the state legislature. In order to qualify for in-state resident tuition you must be a resident of the state of Washington for 12 months before the beginning of the quarter for which you are applying. To be a legal resident of the state you must be a U.S. citizen or have permanent resident (resident alien) status from the I.N.S. For the 2000-2001 academic year students who have not yet established residency in Washington are eligible for a waiver of the non- resident fee differential.

Undocumented students may qualify for resident tuition rates if the following requirements are met:

  • Student has resided in Washington state for the three years immediately prior to receiving a high school diploma and completed the full senior year in a Washington high school or student will have completed the equivalent of a high school diploma and resided in Washington State for three years immediately prior to receiving the equivalent diploma.
  • And the student has continually resided in Washington State since earning a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • And the student agrees to file application to become a permanent resident of the United States as soon as eligible to apply.

The form is not needed for US Citizens or Permanent Resident Aliens.
