Information
technology degree candidates must complete a 58-credit core which includes
courses that present the concepts of
theory, history, software, Internet, networking, hardware,
programming, human relations, computation, communications, and ethics/law.
The core helps students determine which degree they want to work toward
and presents a solid foundation in the Information Technology discipline.
Students then select a degree option which totals at least 90 credits upon
degree completion. Degrees
are awarded upon completion of the required degree courses with a minimum
GPA of 2.0. In addition to the core requirements below, students must have demonstrated proficiency in the following areas:
· Math
proficiency is required and may be fulfilled by either MATH075 with
a “C” or better OR ASSET placement to MATH085 or above. · Keyboarding proficiency is required and may be fulfilled by completing BTECH101: Keyboarding/Word Processing or taking the course challenge available through the Information Technology department. “Challenging a Course” guidelines set forth in the current YVCC catalog must be followed. . STUDENTS WILL NEED TO DEMONSTRATE KEYBOARDING PROFICIENCY DURING THE FOURTH (4TH) WEEK OF THE” IT101—INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY” COURSE. (EFFECTIVE FALL QUARTER 2000)
