Participation in Commencement
Commencement is held once a yea​r. Students who have completed the requirements and have turned in a certificate or associate degree application for:
Fall 2012, Winter, Spring or Summer 2013 may participate in the ceremony.

Graduation Candidates List
The list will be available for proofreading from April 8th through May 6th in the HUB, Registration Office and Technology Complex; in Grandview, next to the student Service Office. Please note that only the degrees and certificates for the current academic year will be listed. The last day to make changes is May 6th.

Cap, Gown and Tassel
Caps, gowns and tassels may be ordered at the YVCC bookstore from April 1st to the 30th. The cost is $29.95 plus tax. There is a $10 late fee starting on May 1st. Extra tassels are $6.95 plus tax. You will be able to pick up your order at the bookstore starting on June 3rd. These items are your to keep. If you do not want to keep your gown, a drop bin will be available in the HUB by the bookstore after the ceremony. Donated gowns will be recycled for use in future graduation ceremonies. Caps and gowns are not required to participate in the commencement ceremony.

Weather and Attire
​The ceremony will go on regardless of weather. Please consider the outdoor environment when planning you attire. Rain may cause graduation gowns to stain clothing. It is usually very windy on the field, and you will be walking on grass; high heels are not recommended.

Rehearsal 
Wednesday, June 12 12:00 - 1:00 Parker Field
​Your attendance is essential to ensure a smooth commencement ceremony. Graduating students are invited to an ASYVCC Student Government hosted luncheon in the HUB immediately following rehearsal. Come and enjoy good food and great company!

Honor Cords
Associate Degree (AA, AS, A&S, AAS) applicants are eligible to receive honor cords based on their YVCC college level grade point average (GPA) as of winter 2013.
Honors: 3.40 - 3.84
High Honors: 3.85 - 4.0
There is no charge for honor cords. They are provided by YVCC and will be distributed after rehearsal on June 12, between 1:00 - 1:30pm in the HUB and before the ceremony on June 13, between 6:00 - 6:30pm at the check-in table on the 3rd base line.

No Assigned Seating
There is no assigned seating for students participating in commencement. You are welcome to sit next to friends and classmates.

Diplomas
Graduates receive diploma covers during commencement. The diplomas are mailed approximately two months after the end of the quarter in which the student graduates.

Photographs
Cameras are allowed in the stadium. Guests can photograph graduates but cannot come onto the field. A professional photographer will be taking individual student photographs during check-in and our Community Relations staff will be taking additional pictures during the ceremony. The link to these images will be posted on our website (www.yvcc.edu/commencement) shortly after commencement.

Guests
Graduates may invite​ as many family members and friends as they wish. Please note that children are welcome, but that the ceremony is lengthy. The stadium will be open for general seating beginning at 6:00pm.

Invitations/Announcements
Each graduate will receive five free invitations which will be available in the Registration Office at the Yakima Campus and in the bookstore at the Grandview Campus starting May 1st.
Students will need photo ID to pick them up. Additional packets of five invitations can be purchased at the bookstore. Invitations are available for your convenience but are not necessary for admission to the graduation ceremony.

Special Accommodations
If special accommodations are needed for you or your guests, please contact Jennifer Townsend at 509.574.4961. YVCC does provide American Sign Language Interpreters for the ceremony. They will be located along the first base line on the field. 
Please note: Seating for individuals with disabilities is very limited. Reservations are strongly recommended.

Parking
No parking permits are required for this event. General parking lots are open to students and visitors; however, designated pay lots still require payment. Additional parking is available on the side streets surrounding the campus including: Arlington, Bonnie Doone, Prasche, and 12th Avenue.

Non-Smoking
Parker Field and stadium are non-smoking areas. Please inform your guests that smoking on the YVCC campus is allowed in designated areas only.
