The Writing Center is a resource for YVCC students and faculty. Our primary purpose is to guide students to become better writers in a college setting.
We work with writers at any stage of the writing process, from getting started to final editing. Students may bring an assignment, an idea, or a draft to the Center and meet with a trained writing consultant.
If you can't get to the Center, we can give you feedback on your paper online through our Online Consultations link.
We also offer:
English Language Learners Conversation Group (ELL Group)
MLA, APA, and Punctuation Workshops (Monster Workshops)
Helpful handouts (see Resources link for online downloads)
Style Manuals for use in the Center
Dictionaries and books about writing
Inspiration for clustering and creating outlines
A comfortable place to write and study
A limited number of computer workstations for writing
Space for peer groups to meet
Spoken word events and guest speakers
From our Director:
My main goal for the Writing Center is to create a rich, collaborative environment where writers of all levels and experience have the opportunity to receive intelligent, informed feedback on their works in progress.
-- Dodie Forrest
This site is dedicated in memory of Michael White, longtime consultant and friend, who always said, "If Shakespeare himself went to YVCC, I'm sure that he would be a regular at the Writing Center."
