Welcome to Yakima Valley Community College's
Writing Center!
"Where good students become better writers."
Comments from our students . . .
“I learned to write in a more organized and chronological manner, which resulted in a well-developed and fluid paper.” (Lavonda Omta)
“Before I came to the Writing Center my mind was closed and I didn’t realize I had the power to absorb knowledge and gain personal and educational growth by simply opening up. I am teachable.” (Teresa Bailey)
“By them [Mike and Andrea] building my confidence and showing me my strengths I was able to embrace what I thought were weaknesses as strengths.” (Ian Brain)
“I have seen a big improvement in not only my grades but in my writing confidence.” (Marcos Perez)
“With the help of everyone at the Writing Center I’ve built my skills toward becoming a better writer … Every consultation has helped bring me one step closer to my goals…” (Charity Carroll)
“Writing consultations are like a shot of oxygen to a suffocating writer.” (Dee Brain)
“During this writing course … I realized that I have something to say and that people may actually want to read about it. This course has given me a voice that I didn’t know I had.” (Kanisa Regan)
Online Writing Center Services
As YVCC students, you may use the Online Writing Center (OWL) to submit drafts and ask questions about your writing. In addition, our Online Writing Center offers links to other online writing resources and to a variety of writing related handouts. The Online Writing Center is also a site where you can learn more information about YVCC's on-campus Writing Centers.
Please remember that working together and focusing on your particular needs as a writer will take some time and hard work, so we invite you to come in to the Writing Center or come online and talk with us as soon as you have an assignment or a working draft. You might plan to make multiple visits, too, since no writer “learns it all” in one sitting. In this way, you can make the most of our services and help yourself be successful with your writing projects.
If you cannot find what you need on our website, please stop by the Writing Centers on the Yakima or Grandview campuses. We would be happy to help! (For information about our open hours, please click on the "Writing Center Hours" button above.)
This site is dedicated in memory of Michael White, longtime consultant and friend, who always said, "If Shakespeare himself went to YVCC, I'm sure that he would be a regular at the Writing Center."
