Program Description
The Displaced Homemaker program at Yakima Valley Community College provides training to individuals who are making the difficult transition from home and financial dependence to the work place and financial independence.
YVCC's Displaced Homemaker program offers training in basic skills and literacy, occupational skills and vocational education. The Career Connection Center offers a wide range of professional-technical programs within the Workforce Education Division that are available to Displaced Homemaker students.
Am I eligible for the Displaced Homemaker Program?
Individuals who have worked primarily in the home for 10 years or more, providing unsalaried household services for family members on a full time basis, are not gainfully employed and need assistance in securing gainful employment may qualify for Displaced Homemaker funds. In addition, you must meet one of the following criteria:
- Have been dependent on the income of another family member, but are no longer supported by that income (due to divorce, separation or death of spouse; loss of spouse's job)
- Have been dependent on federal assistance but are no longer eligible for that assistance
- Have been supported as the parent of minor children by public assistance or spousal support, but whose youngest child is within two years of reaching 18 years of age.
