Financial Aid

IT IS TIME TO SUBMIT YOUR FAFSA FOR 2013-2014.

Applications submitted by March 1 will have priority.

Effects of the Federal Sequester

for 2012-2013

  • Federal Direct Loans where the first disbursement occurs after March 1, will have a higher loan fee deducted from loan disbursement(s).  The current fee of 1% may increase to an estimated 1.05%.  Affected borrowers will be notified by the U.S. Department of Education when the determination is made.  Other funds are not affected for 2012-2013.

FINANCIAL AID

Financing a college education is an investment in the future. Federal and state financial aid programs, as well as privately funded scholarships, are designed to provide additional financial resources for students who are serious about attending Yakima Valley Community College but do not have adequate resources to pay the full cost of attendance on their own.

The staff in the financial aid office is committed to helping
you qualify for financial aid.
However, financial aid is no substitute for good planning and preparation. Please read the informational pages of our website.  Be sure to apply early.  Financial aid processing, especially during peak periods, takes longer than you might expect.  In particular, allow at least a month for loans to process before the start of a term.  If you are from out of town, have some start up money when you arrive for establishing your residence and arranging transportation. Start each term with some savings in hand so you can buy your books and be fully participating from the first day. Respond to any requests from the financial aid office in a timely manner and be sure to check the financial aid portal weekly.

SUBMITTING FORMS:  If you need to drop off forms at the Yakima office outside our service hours, please leave forms at the Financial Aid Drop Box located on the front of the Financial Aid counter in Deccio Higher Education Center.  Forms may also be mailed.
