The competitor in Cody Butler wants his Yakima Valley women to become cohesive immediately, if not sooner. The realist in him knows that’s not possible.
So Thursday night the Yaks coach was philosophic about his team’s 76-56 non-league defeat of Linn-Benton in Sherar Gym.

Former Yak Nicole DeRosier was chosen in the PacWest Weekly Top Ten Honor Roll.
Nicole DeRosier lead the Urban Knights to a 1-1 weekend, averaging 17 points and 5.5 rebounds over two games. DeRosier tied for second in scoring in PacWest for week, shooting 52.2% (12 for 23) from the floor, and 53% (9 for 17) from beyond the arc. Nicole ranked fourth in three-point shooting and led the conference in three-pointers made per game (4.5) for the week. The Junior hit six three's in the Urban Knights win over Cal State East Bay. That feat tied the Academy of Art record for most three-pointers made in a single game. DeRosier also recorded a season high 21 points in the win.

Anna Marchbanks has been involved in less-than-ideal situations a number of times in her basketball career, and they have all turned out well. She hopes this one will, too. The 5-foot-8 2008 graduate of McKay High School and 2010 graduate of Yakima Valley Community College has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Oregon State University.

Ariah Gonzales has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Yakima Valley Community College. The 5-11 senior forward captain helped the Middleton Vikings earn their second Idaho State championship in three seasons. Gonzales averaged 12 ppg and 9 rpg at the state tournament.
