Nill leads Yaks into title game
YAKIMA — Another monster game for Chelsey Nill contributed to another win for Yakima Valley in the High Hopes Crossover Tournament on Saturday in Sherar Gym.
The Yaks, getting 25 points from Nill, rolled over Lower Columbia 86-67 to gain a title-game berth opposite Umpqua. The Riverhawks, 74-63 victors over Columbia Basin, will meet YVCC at 2 p.m. today for the championship.
Nill, coming off a 35-point outing in Yakima Valley’s season-opener on Friday, hit 11 of 19 field goals and added two steals. Brittany Weaver had 19 points and seven steals and Kaitlin McBride added 10 points for YVCC, which led 44-33 at halftime.
The Yaks shot 51 percent from the field in he first 20 minutes, including 5 of 13 from 3-point range. While YVCC finished 9 of 27 from long distance, LC was only 1 for 9.
Jade Haas and Sadie Salte, both reserves, scored 13 points each to lead the Red Devils.
