Frequently Asked Questions
How much does the exam cost? Currently the exam fee is $20 non-refundable and non-transferrable.
Once I have completed the placement test how do I access my scores?
Current YVCC students may access valid test scores (not older than two years) from Degree Audit in Online Services two business days after their test date. Students will need their student ID and PIN numbers to access this information. Access Degree Audit.
I do not live in Yakima and am not able to travel; where can I take the placement exam?
Many community colleges in Washington State and other states offer the COMPASS exam. Contact a community college near you to see if they offer the COMPASS test. Students need the Writing, Reading and Math exams. (E-Write scores are not accepted.)
If I have test scores from a previous college, will YVCC accept them?
- Students must have applied to YVCC, paid Admission fee and have a student ID number before sending test scores.
- YVCC only accepts COMPASS scores for course placement, specifically Reading, Writing and Math portions of the exam. (ASSET, CPT, or Accuplacer scores are not accepted.)
- Test scores more than two years old will not be accepted.
- Scores must be sent directly from a college test center.
Colleges may fax or mail the score reports to the appropriate campus.
Make sure to have the sending institution include your birthdate on the test scores.
