Computer Aided Drafting (CAD)

The computer has dramatically impacted the engineering and architectural design fields in the last decade. Today's design professional has at her or his fingertips tools of unbelievable power and creativity.

It is now possible for a computer aided drafter to show a client exactly what a new bridge or building will look like, from any angle, in an electronic instant. He can also use powerful software to instantly compute areas, volumes, and other engineering parameters that previously took hours or days to calculate.

YVCC's Computer Aided Drafting/Design (CAD) Certificate prepares students for immediate employment in the workforce by using the same equipment used in business and industry. Careful attention is paid to the matching the skills required by employers in the local Yakima area.

CAD classes are held in the computer labs in the new Deccio Building. Machines and software are updated regularly to keep pace with industry standards. All students work with 17 inch color monitors. The lab is also equipped with a full size digitizer, various plotters and scanners. The latest version of AutoCAD is typically used. The student also receives instruction on Microstation, and SolidWorks, computer drafting software programs that are popular in the Yakima Valley Service Region. Career opportunities are excellent, making Computer Aided Drafting a smart career choice!
